This isn't one of them.
This "mechanical" is so terrible it requires me to show it to the masses. I can see why they call it the onion mod - but I can come up with a hell of a lot better names for this mod - I'm sure you can too. You probably have 3 or 4 names as we speak.
Just all sorts of wrong.

The SmokTech SID is a light weight aluminum variable voltage/wattage 510 threaded device that uses a single 18650 battery.
Available in 4 attractive colors, the SID features single push button operation and a easy to read OLED display screen. As an added touch, the display will show the VK logo upon inserting a new battery!
The SID can be operated in variable voltage mod from 3 to 6 volts in .1 volt increments or in variable wattage mode from 3 to 15 watts in .5 watt increments. The display will also report the Ohms of the attached atomizer, show the current charge level of the installed battery and even show the working volts while an atomizer is attached. The SID will alert you if the battery is inserted backwards or a short circuit is detected. The SID will not work with any atomizer below 1.2 Ohms so it is not ideal for sub-ohm RDA/RBA applications.
We highly recommend AW IMR 18650 batteries for this device. The black AW and some protected batteries may not fit in this device.

If this were a $50.00 mod I really wouldn't care. However, many people paid as much as $250.00 to get one of these on the flip market. We have been promised a 120 watt upgrade - and here we are!
I'd love to know what goes on in peoples heads who come up with ideas like this.

A very sleek, clean device! I have one and they work great.
They are now in the works making a new upgrade tube that will allow you to stack 2 x 18650s to bring the device to a maximum of 120 watts. Great idea, bad implementation.
This piece of "stunning innovation" will be known as the "FHP" adapter. Rather then make version two, they shove a large pipe up its rear and call it awesome!
I'm calling it all kinds of stuff - but we will leave it at EPIC FAIL!
Needless to say - I'll be leaving mine at 60 watts for now.
